Post is the Garza County seat and the only town we serve where the drive itself is worth mentioning. Run southeast on US-84 past Slaton and the flat holds until it does not — the highway drops off the Caprock escarpment and Post sits right at the base of it, which is why the town looks and feels different from everything else on the South Plains. C. W. Post founded it in 1907 as a planned colony, laid the streets out deliberately, and built the Postex cotton mill that ran here for decades. That history is still standing: the courthouse, the restored Garza Theatre, mill buildings, and a downtown of real brick. From our yard it is about an hour. The housing is old by regional standards, a lot of it 1910s through 1950s, and old housing is where our work comes from — remodels, roofs, estate clearances and the occasional structure coming down.

What we know about working in Post

The escarpment changes two practical things. First, the approach: the grade in and out of the canyon country means we watch load weight harder than usual, because a heavy box coming back up US-84 is a different proposition from one crossing the flat. Second, the ground — there are draws, breaks and genuine slope around Post, and rural drives here are steeper and rockier than anything closer to Lubbock. On the housing, pre-1980 stock is the norm and asbestos in floor tile, mastic, pipe wrap and textured ceilings is a real possibility, along with lead paint in anything pre-1978. Survey before demolition, and understand that we cannot take asbestos-containing material at all. Burn bans are common in Garza County, so mesquite and brush clearing goes in the container rather than on a pile.

Getting a truck to you

Southeast on US-84 past Slaton and down off the Caprock, about an hour from the yard. It is a good road and an easy run, and the grade is the only thing that changes how we plan — we keep an eye on load weight for the climb back out. Rural addresses around Post sit in rougher country than the flat, so we ask about grade, rock and turnaround room before committing a loaded truck to a ranch road.

Permits, streets and placement in Post

On a private driveway in Post you generally do not need a municipal permit. Placement in the public street or right-of-way is a different matter and normally requires approval — from the borough or township where the road is locally maintained, or from TxDOT where it is a state route. Every municipality in Garza County runs its own form and its own lead time, and older streets here often have no off-street parking at all, so plan the permit before you plan the delivery.
