10 Yard Dumpster roll-off container in Lubbock, TX

The heavy box

10 Yard Dumpster Rental in Lubbock, TX

The size nobody asks for until the scale settles it. Concrete, brick, block, tile, dirt and sod all run roughly 2,400 to 2,800 pounds per cubic yard, and out here you can add caliche to that list. Dense South Plains material fills a 10 yard by weight long before it fills it by volume. That is the entire point of the box.

A 10 yard roll-off is 12 feet long, 8 feet wide and about three and a half feet tall — call it three pickup loads. On a lot of Lubbock jobs it is the only container that makes sense, and not because the pile is small. It is because the pile is dense. Weight stops a truck long before volume does, and around here the heavy material comes with a local surprise nobody warns you about.

Why people choose the 10 yard

That surprise is caliche. Under the topsoil across most of Lubbock County sits a hardpan caliche layer, and past the Loop caliche driveways and county roads are simply normal. It is not dirt in the way people picture dirt — it breaks out in dense chunks and it weighs like rock. Put it alongside the rest of the heavy list and the arithmetic is the same: concrete, brick, block, tile, dirt and sod all land somewhere around 2,400 to 2,800 pounds per cubic yard. Four cubic yards of broken slab, a piece barely bigger than a parking space, is already better than three tons and it is sitting in the bottom third of the container. Our Lubbock dumpster sizing guide starts with weight for exactly this reason.

So a full driveway replacement is a 10 hauled three times, not a 30 hauled once. That sentence saves more customers money and schedule than anything else on this site. A 30 loaded with concrete goes over legal axle weight while it still looks two-thirds empty, and the driver will not lift it. The 10 is built so that a legal payload and a full box arrive at the same moment. We stage the swaps back to back so your breaker crew never stands around waiting on steel, which is how concrete and heavy debris hauling is supposed to run. Call before demo day and the rotation is already on the board.

The short footprint earns its keep too. Twelve feet of box tucks into a narrow original drive in Tech Terrace or off the older streets near Maxey Park where nothing longer will sit without hanging into the street or blocking the walk. Same story on a tight rural set beside a shop building. Patio and apron tear-outs, a storm-cracked walk, an old brick planter, tile with a mortar bed under it, a grade correction that produced more soil than anyone expected — all of it is 10 yard work. See residential dumpster rental for the household side, and how we protect a driveway on delivery before you pick the spot.

Good fit for

  • Driveway, apron and sidewalk tear-out in stages
  • Patio slab, porch steps and front walk concrete
  • Brick, block and mortar from a wall takedown
  • Broken-out caliche drive and hardpan spoil
  • Bathroom and entry tile with the thinset bed
  • Dirt, sod and clay off a grade correction
  • Footing and shed slab rubble on a small demo
  • Stone, pavers and landscape rock removal

Not the right size for

  • Whole-house cleanouts full of bulky furniture
  • Garage and attic clear-outs with light volume
  • Multi-room remodels making airy, bulky debris
  • Commercial and farm shop clear-out volume

Will it fit?

Give the truck about 60 feet of straight approach, roughly 10 and a half feet of width and 20 feet or more of overhead clearance for the hoist arm to swing. In the older neighbourhoods the holdups are low limbs on planted trees, service drops and carport roofs, so walk the run and then look up. Twelve feet is the size that fits a narrow Tech Terrace drive when nothing longer will. Protection boards go down on concrete as standard, and on a caliche drive we set boards too — a loaded box works itself into hardpan more than people expect, especially after rain. Out in the county, flag your septic field and well head before we arrive; nobody wants a loaded roll-off parked over a lateral line. We photograph the set on arrival either way.

Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

10 Yard Dumpster FAQs

Why would a whole driveway replacement only need a 10 yard dumpster?

Because concrete runs roughly 2,400 to 2,800 pounds per cubic yard. A two-car Lubbock driveway at four inches thick is close to ten tons of rubble once it is broken out, and no roll-off leaves your property over legal weight. The answer is never a bigger container — it is a small container hauled several times. We schedule the swaps so your crew keeps swinging, but call before demolition day so the rotation is already built instead of improvised.

Can I put caliche and dirt in a 10 yard dumpster?

Yes, and the 10 is the only size we will put it in. Caliche hardpan, spoil off a trench and sod from a grade correction all weigh like rock, so a container that looks a third full is already at a legal payload. Keep it as a clean heavy load if you can — no wood, no trash mixed through — because clean fill and mixed debris go to different places. Tell us what you are digging and we will size it.

How many pickup loads does a 10 yard dumpster hold?

About three full-size pickup beds loaded level. That comparison is honest on volume and badly misleading on weight, because three heaped truckloads of broken concrete is far more than a half-ton pickup should ever carry. Use the pickup number for bulky material and the tonnage allowance for anything dense. If your pile is mixed remodel debris with a lot of masonry through it, describe what is actually in it and we will pick the container for you.

Will a 10 yard fit in a narrow Tech Terrace driveway?

This is the size that fits when nothing else does. Twelve feet of steel sits on the original single-width drives around Tech Terrace and central Lubbock without blocking the sidewalk or hanging into the street. The usual obstacles are a planted tree limbing low over the drive and the power drop at the corner of the house. If the drive is genuinely too tight, street placement is sometimes workable but can need approval — start with our guide to dumpster permits in Lubbock and confirm current requirements with the city.

What happens if I overload a 10 yard with concrete and brick?

The driver will not lift it, and he is right not to. An overweight box is unsafe on the hoist and illegal on the road, so somebody ends up offloading the excess by hand and we come back another day, which is the worst outcome for your schedule. We mark a fill line for dense material and walk it with you at delivery so there is no argument later. When you are unsure, load lower and take the second haul. You only lose that afternoon once.
