15 Yard Dumpster Rental in Lubbock, TX

The in-between size that quietly handles two of the most common jobs on the South Plains: a single-layer shingle tear-off up to about twenty squares, and a student rental made ready between tenants. Four feet of sidewall instead of six, which matters more than you would think when you are throwing drywall over the side by yourself.

A 15 yard roll-off is 16 feet long, 8 feet wide and about four feet tall — four to five pickup loads. It is the size that stops you paying for air on a small job and stops you running out of room on a medium one. Two Lubbock jobs land on it more than any other: one roof, or one room.

Why people choose the 15 yard

Start with the roof, because in Lubbock the roof is a season. Hail runs roughly March through June here and the city sits in a serious corridor, so after a big cell the entire roofing trade books at once, insurance adjusters stack up and lead times stretch. A single-layer asphalt tear-off up to about twenty squares fits a 15 with room to spare, and shingles are heavy enough that going bigger buys volume you cannot legally fill. Two layers, or anything past roughly twenty-five squares, and we move you up. Our roofing dumpster rental page covers staging and same-day drops, and the roof tear-off size guide works the squares-to-yards math out properly. In hail season, book the container when you book the crew, not after.

The other job is the make-ready. Around Texas Tech — Tech Terrace, Maxey Park, the streets north and east of campus — the rental stock turns over hard, and a single unit stripped back to paint-ready is almost exactly a 15. Carpet and pad, a tired vanity and countertop, blinds, a couple of interior doors, the closet contents nobody came back for. If you are turning several units in the same fortnight, read rental property turnover cleanouts in Lubbock first, because the trick is sequencing swaps rather than trying to hold one giant container across two buildings.

The low sidewall is the underrated part. Four feet means a sheet of drywall goes over the rail without a second person and without a ramp, which matters when it is a one-man remodel and the wind is up. Because Lubbock houses are slab-on-grade with no basement, one-room jobs are genuinely one-room jobs — there is no hidden storey of accumulated material to discover halfway through. Keep the load below the top rail all the same. Anything proud of the rails cannot be tarped, and around here anything that cannot be tarped will end up in the neighbour's yard. That is not a figure of speech, it is Tuesday afternoon.

Good fit for

  • Single-layer asphalt tear-off to about 20 squares
  • One-bathroom or one-bedroom remodel debris
  • Student rental make-ready between tenants
  • Carpet, pad, vinyl and laminate flooring pull-up
  • Kitchen cabinet and countertop swap-out
  • Garage or shed clear-out on a normal lot
  • Fence panel and gate replacement after a wind event
  • Small deck, pergola or patio cover teardown

Not the right size for

  • Two-layer or 30-plus square roof tear-offs
  • Whole-house cleanouts and estate clearances
  • Concrete, caliche, dirt or other dense loads
  • New construction and full addition framing waste

Will it fit?

Sixteen feet of box needs about 60 feet of straight approach, 10 and a half feet of width and 20 feet or more of overhead so the hoist arm can lift clean. Four feet of sidewall is the selling point: you can pitch shingles and drywall over the rail from the ground rather than hauling everything up a ramp. Protection boards go under it on concrete, and on caliche as well. On a re-roof we set the container on the tear-off side of the house and as close to the eave as the approach allows, which cuts the walk for the crew and keeps stray nails in a smaller area. Wind matters even at this size — keep felt, wrappers and underlayment weighted or bagged, because loose paper leaves a 15 as fast as it leaves a 40.

Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

15 Yard Dumpster FAQs

What size dumpster do I need for a roof tear-off in Lubbock?

A single layer of asphalt shingle up to about twenty squares fits a 15 yard comfortably. Two layers roughly doubles the tonnage, so twenty squares of double-layer is 20 yard work or a pair of hauls. Decking, ridge vent and old flashing add volume on top of that. Shingles are heavy, so the limit you hit is weight, not space. Tell us the square count and the number of layers and we will size it before the crew shows up.

How long does it take to get a dumpster after a hail storm?

Longer than usual, which is why we say book early. Hail season here runs roughly March through June, and after a significant cell every roofer in Lubbock is calling the same week. We hold capacity and run same-day and next-day drops where we can — see same-day dumpster rental — but the reliable move is to reserve the container when you sign the roofer, not when the crew is already in the driveway.

Is a 15 yard big enough to clear out a student rental?

For a single unit stripped to paint-ready, yes, almost always. Carpet and pad, a vanity, blinds, doors and everything the last tenant abandoned will fit inside 15 yards. Where it gets tight is a fully furnished unit or several units at once during the May and August turnover, and then you want a 20 or a run of swaps. If you manage a block of properties, call and we will build a schedule rather than a single delivery.

Why does a 15 yard have lower sides than a 20?

Because it is built for material you throw in by hand rather than material you wheel in. Four feet of sidewall lets one person put a sheet of drywall or a bundle of shingles over the rail without a ramp or a second set of hands. The trade-off is capacity, and if you are loading bulky cabinetry or furniture the taller box saves you time. Consider what you are lifting and how, not just the cubic yards.

Can I mix roofing shingles and general remodel debris?

Usually yes, in a standard mixed load, but tell us up front because shingles are dense and they change the weight picture fast. What cannot go in any container is asbestos-containing material, and pre-1980 Lubbock houses turn up asbestos in floor tile, mastic, textured ceilings, pipe wrap and old roofing felt. Test before you demo, keep it out of the box, and confirm current rules with the Texas Department of State Health Services, because requirements change.
