Most people renting a dumpster are already having a stressful week. The kitchen is in pieces, the roof is half off, or a family member has passed and there is a house full of forty years to sort out. The last thing anyone needs is a hauler who quotes one price, invoices another, and drops a container across the mailbox.
We started PK's Dumpster Rental in 2015 with one truck and one rule: tell people the truth about what it costs and show up when we said we would. 11 years later that has not changed. Paul Kaiser still answers the phone most mornings, and our drivers still walk the drop before they back in.
We run out of 1511 Private Road 7325 here in Lubbock, which means we are not routing a truck in from Amarillo or Midland when you need a container today. Not sure which one? Tell us what you are clearing out and roughly how much of it there is. Ninety percent of the time we can size it correctly over the phone in under two minutes. Dense material like brick, block, broken concrete or caliche wants a small can; a full gut of a mid-century ranch — framing lumber, cabinets, insulation and trim — is the job that genuinely wants a 40, because that debris takes up enormous space and weighs comparatively little. What makes hauling in Lubbock different
Wide lots, long drives, and a wind that votes
Placement here is usually the easy part. Lubbock lots are wide and flat and driveways are generous, so a 30 or a 40 sets down without drama across most of the south and west side. The complications are different ones. Out in the county the approach is a long caliche or gravel drive that is hard as rock dry and ruts badly a day or two after rain, and a rural drop needs the septic tank, leach field and well head flagged along with gates and turning room at the end of the lane. In the newer south and west additions it is HOA rules and deed restrictions that decide where a container may sit and for how long. On the older grid through Tech Terrace, the Overton area, Slaton and Post you still meet a narrow original drive and a back alley. And because the wind here gets a vote, we set the can in the lee of the house, the shop or a fence whenever the site allows. Slab on grade, brick veneer, and where the volume actually is
Most of Lubbock is mid-century: 1950s to 1970s brick veneer over wood frame, slab on grade, with newer construction filling in south and west. There is no basement here adding a whole floor of contents to a cleanout, so the volume is the garage, the attic and the backyard shed, plus a storage unit somebody has been paying for since the last move. A few older properties have a small storm cellar, and it holds almost nothing. Genuine older stock is a sub-case rather than the whole city — Tech Terrace, the Overton area and central Lubbock run 1930s to 1950s, and those houses do have lath and plaster, which is worth knowing because plaster runs roughly two to three times the weight of drywall for the same volume. Pre-1980 houses anywhere turn up asbestos in floor tile and black mastic, popcorn and textured ceilings, pipe wrap and roofing felt, and pre-1978 homes carry lead paint under the EPA RRP rule. Asbestos in Texas is regulated by Texas DSHS under the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Rules, demolition generally triggers a NESHAP inspection and notification, and we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container. Hail sets the calendar, and tear-offs run deep
The seasonal driver here is hail. The season runs roughly March through June, and when a serious cell tracks across the city the whole roofing trade books out in the same fortnight — adjusters, crews and containers all at once, with lead times stretching for weeks afterwards. Straight-line wind takes fences, outbuildings and trees with it. What catches people out is that a roof is weight, not volume: a multi-layer tear-off is two or three roofs coming off rather than one, and that doubles or triples the tonnage from the same square footage. Asphalt and dimensional shingle dominate in town, metal is common on rural and agricultural buildings and comes off in long light sheets that will sail straight out of an open can if nothing is holding them down, and pre-1980 roofing felt can contain asbestos. Weight at one end, wind at the other
Broken concrete, brick, block, mortar, dirt and caliche all run around 2,400–2,800 lbs per cubic yard, so a heavy load reaches legal transport weight in a container that still looks half empty. That material belongs in a 10 yard, twice, not a 30 once — see concrete and heavy debris. The opposite problem is the one nobody warns you about: insulation, cardboard, siding offcuts, shingle wrappers and plastic sheeting weigh nothing and go everywhere, so we load heavy over light, keep everything below the top rail where it can still be covered, bag the insulation and break the cardboard down. On the green side, Texas has no statewide ban on landfilling yard waste — but clean brush still rides better as its own separate load so it gets ground for mulch rather than buried, and with a burn ban in force through most dry spells the container is often the only legal way to clear it. Paul was the only one who asked what the roof was before he quoted a size. Three layers on a 1958 house. He told me flat that a 30 would be over weight before it was ever full and ran two 15s through instead. The other two outfits just asked how many squares.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Lubbock?
Most of the time, same day if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. We run our own trucks out of 1511 Private Road 7325 in Lubbock, so we are not waiting on a dispatcher two counties away. In the week after a hail cell comes through, and through the Texas Tech turnover at May move-out and August move-in, it can stretch to 48 hours, and we will tell you honestly when you call.
What does a flat rate actually include?
Delivery, pickup, an agreed rental period and a set tonnage allowance with disposal included. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no admin fee. The only way the number changes is if you go over the weight allowance or keep the container longer than agreed, and we tell you both limits before we deliver.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Plenty of our customers text us a photo of where they want it and go to work. All we need is clear access, a spot free of cars and low branches, and permission to be on the property. If the only way in is a narrow original drive, a back alley, a gate beside a detached shop or a long caliche lane out in the county, tell us when you book and we will schedule accordingly. Say so if the property is empty, too — on an unattended job the wind is the risk, so we will talk you through capping the light material and we will time the pull so a loaded can is not sitting open through a windy stretch.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We put protection boards under the wheels and rails on every residential delivery, which spreads the load instead of concentrating it on four small contact patches. The Lubbock complication is the ground rather than the ice — sun and shifting soil crack plenty of drives and aprons long before a truck arrives, so we photograph the existing condition on delivery. Narrow original drives and alley approaches get extra boards. Out in the county a caliche or gravel lane is fine when it is dry and hard, but two days after a rain we would rather come back than cut ruts into it with a loaded can. Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Lubbock?
On your own driveway, generally no municipal permit. In the public street, alley or right-of-way you usually do, through the City of Lubbock — or TxDOT on a state route like US-84 (Clovis Road and the Slaton Highway), US-82 (the Marsha Sharp Freeway) or US-87 alongside I-27. Wolfforth, Woodrow, Levelland, Slaton, Ransom Canyon, New Deal, Abernathy, Anton and Meadow each run their own right-of-way process. The one people forget is private rules rather than public ones: many of the newer south and west additions carry HOA covenants and deed restrictions that limit where a container sits and how long it stays, and that approval is worth getting before the crew starts. What can I not put in the dumpster?
Wet paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, automotive chemicals, asbestos-containing material, propane and other pressurised cylinders, lead-acid batteries, medical waste, whole tires and refrigerant appliances. Leftover paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides and agricultural chemicals go to the City of Lubbock citizens collection station or a Lubbock County household hazardous waste event rather than in the can — there is no statewide paint take-back programme in Texas. Texas does not ban yard waste from landfills, but grass, leaves, brush and branches still travel best as their own clean load so the brush can be ground for mulch instead of buried. Everything else on a normal cleanout or renovation is fine. Rules do change, so ask us before it goes in.
